Jordan Parker's Wildflower Triathlon Training

With our busy schedules, it is sometimes difficult to step out of our day-to-day lives. I am writing to tell you about a special cause that I will be a part of that which makes a difference in the lives of people with leukemia and lymphoma by joining The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s Team in Training.

I’ll be participating in the Wildflower Triathlon on May 3rd in Lake San Antonio, CA. I’ll be completing a 1.2 mile swim, a 55-mile bike ride, and a 13-mile run; yes, in one day! This triathlon is a fund raising event for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society and I have made a pledge to train six days a week from now until May 1st. I have also committed to raising at least $2,800 to help fund research toward a cure for Leukemia. My goal is to cross the finish line and support this very important and worthy cause.

My inspiration and motivation for participating in this event comes from the amazing people that I have met since joining the staff of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society who have battled or are currently battling this disease. These are people who’ve survived leukemia & lymphoma and are now running marathons, cycling centuries, and completing mountain biking events; people who are currently battling blood-related cancers, bravely dealing with illness, chemotherapy and bone marrow transplants.

I’m continually touched by the stories of people who’ve lost their fight against cancer. I will be participating in honor of my best friend BJ Snyder’s mother – Linda Callahan who passed away from Lymphoma and my mother’s dear friend who also passed away from Lymphoma on November 1st, 2002 at the age of 59 – he was a pilot for Singapore Air. I am also participating for the many people whose lives were cut too short. Their spirits and strength will help get me through the difficult moments of my training and carry me through the triathlon on the big day.

It is for all of these people that I train every day and for them that I am committed to raising at least $2,800. I’ve learned that leukemia is the number one disease killer of children under 14 years of age, and strikes 10 times as many adults. Leukemia and lymphoma are the leading fatal cancers in men under the age of 35.

If you would like to help in the fight against cancer without competing in a triathlon, enduring three and half months of training, or having to put on a wet suit, you can complete the enclosed sponsorship form, enclose a check, and mail it back to me. Your generous 100% tax-deductible donation will go to support research, patient services, and educational programs. Please donate what you can. I am committed to raising this money and should I fail to reach my goal, I have agreed to pay the difference out of my own pocket; although, 100% of the amount over my goal will go towards patient services and research. Every little bit helps bring us closer to a cure, but research changes the outlook for patients. Your help is greatly appreciated.

With heartfelt thanks,

Jordan
